Those building the Wall were not building because they wanted to protect themselves, they were building because they understood that the broken down walls represented God’s judgement over them (a 70 year judgement God first decreed would happen in Isaiah (see Isaiah 7), that was coming to an end and that the LORD was graciously providing an opportunity to once again to restored and fortified in His Name. The broken down walls had represented broken through hearts, hearts that had strayed from God.
The building up of the walls represented a return to God, hearts that are crying out, “we repent, and we wish to once again take refuge in Your name.”
We will always end up broken down when we allow ourselves to stray from our identify in Christ, yet even now, He has provided us a WAY (He is the Way according to John 14;6), to come and be fortified in all that He is.
